Mystic Jarv Weekend of 19 December

Posted by Jarv on December 19, 2009

Well it’s been a few weeks since I got around to doing this, Rest assured (if you really care) I have still been doing my predictions, I’ve been doing fairly well too, last weekend aside where everything seemed to go wrong, This midweek for example I got 7 of 8 Results right and 2 perfect scores, Only Arsenal let me down who I expected to beat Burnley.

Anyway onto this weekend:

Saturday

Portsmouth V Liverpool

A tough one this one Liverpool have been poor but then again Portsmouth are bottom of the table and seemingly have no money. Still Pompey have been playing better than results suggest and they might just sneak something out of this game. Mystic Jarv predicts a 1-1 Draw

Aston Villa V Stoke City

Villa Really are on a roll of late and have moved into 4th on the Same points as Arsenal in third all be it playing 1 game more. Stoke will be fairly happy with their lot so far this season 21 points from 16 games will be more than enough to keep them up if they can repeat that in the next 16 games. I really don’t think Stoke will get anything from this game though.

Mystic Jarv predicts 3-1 to Villa

Blackburn Rovers V Tottenham Hotspur

Blackburn have a great home record and have not been beaten there since the 15th of August. Spurs form on the other hand is all over the place, 2 wins, 3 draws and a loss from their last 6 & personally I think Blackburn will just shade this one.

Mystic Jarv predicts 2-1 to Blackburn

Fulham V Manchester United

What a fantastic achievement it is for Fulham to make the knockout stages of the Europa League, I hope the draw is kind to them. United have major injuries at the back but are scoring more goals this season than last. Fulham need to get at United early and try to nick a goal to put the pressure on. That being said i think United will edge this one.

Mystic Jarv predicts 1-2 to Manchester United

Manchester City V Sunderland

Sunderland started great but have struggled over the last few games and need a win to get the confidence back a little. City also need a win having not picked up 3 league points since September. Tottenham fans were chanting “you’re getting sacked in the morning” to Hughes on Wednesday night, well he hasn’t been but pressure is mounting and they are 8th having spent close to a quarter of a billion since Hughes took over. The pressure on Hughes i think will be lifted a bit with this game and all will be rosy again if they follow it up with Wins against Stoke and Wolves over Christmas. They also have a game in hand

Mystic Jarv predicts 2-1 to City

Arsenal V Hull City

Out of the Relegation zone Hull have done better of late but are once again without Jimmy Bullard who has yet another injury. Arsenal aren’t the first team to struggle at Burnley and they wont be the last but from winning at Anfield to losing at Burnley while both United and Chelsea won. This was a shock result last year with Hull picking up 3 points, Can’t see it this time though.

Mystic Jarv predicts 3-0 to Arsenal

Sunday

Wolverhampton Wanderers V Burnley

McCarthy has come under a lot of fire for his team selection at Old Trafford and i can understand why the Wolves fans who forked out 42 quid to effectively watch the reserves but like he says if he wins on saturday which helps keep them up then all will be forgiven. Burnley got a great result at home to Arsenal but are hopeless away from home and i reckon Wolves will pick up 3 points here.

Mystic Jarv predicts 1-0 to Wolves

Everton V Birmingham City

Birmingham have been playing great of late picking up lots of points and are currently lying 7th and only 5 points off 4th, I don’t think they will manage 4th but if Alex Mcleish is given a nice chunk of money in january to buy a few more quality players then its a possibility, especially as the other teams around keep dropping points at regular intervals. Who thought Everton would be 15th after 16 games? I certainly didn’t, They’ve had lots of injuries which has shown the thinness of their squad and will want to pick up points soon or risk being caught in a season long relegation battle.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 1-1 draw but wouldn’t be surprised if either team wins

West Ham United V Chelsea

Can anyone see anything other than a Chelsea win here? West ham have little in the way of striking options and i’m not exactly sure where the goals might come from. Chelsea had a little wobble but i expect them to comfotably be in the top 2 at the end of the season and should they not be crowned champions i think they will be close by.

Mystic Jarv predicts 1-3 to Chelsea

Monday

Wigan Athletic V Bolton Wanderers

A game both teams really need to win, especially as 2 wins in a row could jump either team into the top half if other results went their way, a tough encounter but Wigan to edge it in My Opinion.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 2-1 Win for Wigan

So there you go

Not sure if I will add anything else before hand so if not i wish you all a Merry Christmas.

Sunday 29/08 Premier league Predictions from Mystic Jarv

Posted by Jarv on August 29, 2009

Well Saturday’s games have finished, or will have by the time this publishes, hopefully i was right with all my predictions, onto Sundays games:

Portsmouth Vs Manchester City 13:30

Well Portsmouth have new owners and its not a day too soon for thyem, they need players in fast.  Speaking of new players Man City have a bundle of them, they have a 100% record too. If Hughes can get the team to gel they could be a force to be reckoned with this season. Its too late for Pompey to bring in enough players to make a big enough difference for this gameand City i believe will have too much

Mystic Jarv predicts a 0-2 win for Manchester City

Portsmouth Vs Manchester City Match Discussion

Everton Vs Wigan Athletic 15:00

Everton have started badly, very badly but its a little early to be marking them for relegation as some Tabaloids have done, the distraction of Lescott has gone now so they can focus on obtaining some Premier League form.
Wigan got a mullering last weekend and in the week against Blackpool, Confidence must be quite low

Mystic Jarv predicts a 1-0 for Everton

Everton Vs Wigan Athletic Match Discussion

Aston Villa Vs Fulham 16:00

Villa got a great result at Anfield and will be buoyed by this and were at home in the Europa league where Fulham had a long journey, Both teams have 1 win from 2 Premier league games, i expect it to be a tight game and Villa to Edge it

Mystic Jarv predicts a 1-0 for Aston Villa

Mystic Jarv’s Saturday 29/08 Premier League Predictions

Posted by Jarv on August 28, 2009

Its Friday and time for another round of me plucking random numbers out of the air and writing some words otherwise known as Mystic Jarv’s Premier league Predictions, Last round i got 6 out of 10 results right but no perfect scores. Lets see how i do this time

Chelsea Vs Burnley – 12:45

So…hands up those who predicted Burnley to have 6 points after 3 games. Well i didn’t and i don’t expect them to win at Stamford Bridge either. At home with the crowd behind them is one thing but against Chelsea who seems to be playing very well this season and Ancelotti appears able to change things at half time if they are struggling i can only see one result.

Mystic Jarv predicts  a 2-0 win for Chelsea

Chelsea Vs Burnley Match Discussion

Blackburn Rovers Vs West Ham United – 15:00

Personally i think this has draw written all over it, a battling Blackburn against West Ham who are a little one dimensional up front, well they would be with only 1 fit striker.

West ham will want to put the midweek behind them as soon as possible and Blackburn will want to get off the mark or risk being in a big relegation fight.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 1-1 draw

Blackburn Rovers Vs West ham United Match Discussion

Bolton Wanderers vs Liverpool  – 15:00

Well thats season over for Liverpool isn’t it…….no of course it isn’t but you might be forgiven for believing the multitude of Tabaloid papers that claim it is. While i might have had some fun at my Liverpool supporting mates expense there is in reality a long way to go in this seasons title race.

Bolton aren’t a great side, they’re not even a good premiership side, The had chances against Hull but Hull are not a good side either. Now if Liverpool were to lose this game then questions would need to be asked, I don’t see it though

Mystic Jarv Predicts 1-3 to Liverpool

Bolton Wanderers Vs Liverpool Match Discussion

Stoke City Vs Sunderland – 15:00

I’m a big fan of Steve Bruce, he did wonders with Wigan last year and found some gems who have moved on to bigger clubs , He appears to be doing the same for Sunderland, he has Bent motivated and firing.

Stoke were a lot of peoples tip for relegation last season and ended up comfortably staying up with a philosophy buiult on Hard work which i think will keep them up this season too however i think Sunderland will have too uch for Stoke even at home.

Mystic Jarv predicts 0-2 to Sunderland

Stoke City Vs Sunderland Match Discussion

Tottenham Hotspur Vs Birmingham City -15:00

Tottenham are flying high, top of the league and have a real chance of going into the International break with a 100% record, Jermain Defoe is really firing this season and they out played Liverpool in game 1, gave Hull a drubbing in game 2 and got a great away win at West Ham in game 3.

Birmingham will be reasonably pleased with 4 points from their first 3 games, they have already got rid of the trip to Old Trafford, A similar average return per game will see them safe….if only it were that simple.

Mystic Jarv Predicts 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur Vs Birmingham City Match Discussion

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Hull City – 15:00

Two clubs i’ve tipped to be battling against the drop this season, Wolves did ok against City at towards the end of the match and Hull got a morale boosting win last week against Bolton.

I can’t help thinking this wont be a game for the football purists though.

Mystic Jarv predicts a bore draw 0-0

Wolverhampton Wanderers Vs Hull City Match Discussion

Manchester United Vs Arsenal – 17:15pm

Both teams come into this game on the back of good results, Manchester United beat Wigan 5-0 last weekend and Arsenal beat Celtic 3-1 in the Champions League.

This is the first meeting of any of the “big 4” this season and both will want to lay down a marker. All too often over the years this game is billed as an Epic premier league title decider only to peter out into a low scoring scrappy affair. This season however it hasn’t been built up anywhere near as much and i can’t help wondering if that is because Arsenal are not seen as genuine challengers this season. To be honest Arsenal were my tip to drop out of the top 4 this year.

Arsenal have started well this season and destroyed Everton on the first weekend and have a Plus 8 Goal difference from their 2 matches. United have looked less than impressive from their first 2 games and were not overly stunning in the first half against Wigan, once the first goal came however it was a different story.

Both clubs have a few injuries with United probably having the slight worst of it missing Van der Sar, Ferdinand, Rafael, Obertan and of course Owen Hargreaves, add to this Johnny Evans who needs surgery sooner rather than later and is playing through the pain. Arsenal are missing Nasri, Djourou, Rosicky (Arsenals very own version of Owen Hargreaves?), Fabianski and their biggest problem Fabregas, who may or may not be fit for the game. Lots to take into account, 2 Clubs with injuries, 2 clubs that like to play the game in an attacking way.

So anyway Mystic Jarv Predicts a 2-1 Win for Manchester United, the game could go either way and the first goal is Key.

Hull City Vs Tottenham Hotspurs 19 August

Posted by Jarv on August 19, 2009

A great result on match day one for Spurs beating last season’s runners up Liverpool and Hull were unlucky to not pick up a point against Chelsea owing to a late fluke cross/shot.

It must be a strange beginning to the season for spurs fans, for so long there has been talk of breaking the Premier league top 4 and the added pressure that brings, This season Man City have taken that mantle and I guess time will tell if the slightly less pressure helps spurs over the season.

Hull i think will struggle this season, they struggled to pull out of a bad run of form last season and only survived thanks to their stunning start and the fact Middlesbrough and Newcastle couldn’t score goals at the end of the season.

Mystic Jarv Predicts Spurs to win 2-1

Birmingham City Vs Portsmouth 19 August

Posted by Jarv on August 18, 2009

So how did i do with these 2 teams on the first weekend of the season, I had Portsmouth to lose 2-1 (note: i seem to have predicted a few 2-1’s not sure why) and they lost 1-0 and i had Birmingham to lose 4-1 at Old Trafford and they lost 1-0 so 2 correct results at least if not the scores.

2 teams i expect to be battling at the lower end of the premier league table, Birminghamhaving just come up and Portsmouth having sold a few players, Unfortunately for Paul Hart unless the take over happens soon by the time they can actually buy some more then they might be done for.

Mystic Jarv Predicts 1-0 to Birmingham

Liverpool Vs Stoke city 19 August

Posted by Jarv on August 18, 2009

2 games Liverpool dropped points in last season up first, one of which went the same way as last season, Rafa will be hoping to not make it 2 same as last year. If Liverpool are to challenge this year again they need to take 3 points from games like this.

How did i do predicting these 2 teams on the 1st weekend, I had Liverpool to draw 1-1 at spurs and they lost 2-1, nothing there and i had Stoke to win 1-0 against Burnley and they won 2-0 so at least the result right.

Liverpool looked disjointed and their passing was poor against spurs and they need to hope Aquilani once fit helps that.

Tony Pulis’s Side have been criticised for relying on Set Pieces but at the end of the day their main aim is to stay in the division and goals from set pieces count just as much as 40 yard screamers. That been said I think Liverpool will be better than against Spurs and therefor

Mystic Jarv predicts 1-0 to Liverpool

Wigan Athletic vs Wolverhampton Wanderers 18 August

Posted by Jarv on August 17, 2009

How did i do on the 1st matchday weekend predicting these 2 clubs, well i had Wigan to lose 3-1 away and they won 2-0 so nothing there and i Had Wolves to lose 2-1 and they lost 2-0 so right result wrong score.

I really think Wolves will struggle this season and wouldn’t be surprised to see Mick Mccarthy out of a job before the season is out.

Rodallega looks decent from what i saw of thim at the back end of last season and the stunner he scored against Villa, Will he be a Zaki where he starts very well then disappears, maybe not quite so litterally as Zaki’s case

Mystic Jarv predicts 2-0 Wigan

Sunderland Vs Chelsea 18th August

Posted by Jarv on August 17, 2009

Sixth Plays tenth, not that that means anything after only 1 weekend where half the league won and no draws. How did i do predicting their 1st 2 games, I had Bolton to beat Sunderland 1-0 and Sunderland won 1-0 so nothing there and i had Chelsea to beat Hull 2-0 and they won 2-1 so i got at least the result right.

Chealsea struggled to break down Hull and only picked up the win late on with a lucky cross-shot, their season will depend on how quickly the team gets to grips with Carlo Ancelotti’s formation and i expect Steve Bruce’s Sunderland to be no less organised than Hull, Bent will score goals this season for Sunderland and Sunderland should do well under Bruce’s stewardship.

Mystic Jarv Predicts a 1-1 Draw

Tottenham Hotspur Vs Liverpool 16th August

Posted by Jarv on August 16, 2009

The last 2 teams to start their premiership season.

Liverpool don’t need to improve much this season to win the title if their rivals remain as they were, their big task will be whetehr they can turn some of those draws into wins. Alonso is undoubtebly a big loss and Aquilani has some big shoes to fill.

Spurs have added Peter crouch to their strikeing line up but there are serious question marks about the long term fitness of both of their best 2 centre backs, woodgate has had his fair share of injuries and king can’t play 2 games a week.

Lots to play for to put down a marker early in the season and neither will want to lose, Mystic Jarv predicts 1-1

Manchester United Vs Birmingham City 16th August

Posted by Jarv on August 16, 2009

4 Results right 4 Results wrong on saturday, Lets see how i do with Sunday’s Games

Man United will still be smarting over the loss against Chelsea and should have too much for Birmingham, United looked sharper and much more match fit against Chelsea than they did 12 months ago and should get off to a better start to the season.

Ofetn clubs who come up from the championship spring a few surprises, Sadly Birmingham’s pre-season has gone quite badly losing against Burton Albion, Crewe, Forest and most lately Tamworth and only managing wins against Cheltenham and Dagenham & Redbridge.

Mystic Jarv predicts Birmingham to score early then get mullered 4-1 to the Home team*

Wolves Vs West Ham 15 August

Posted by Jarv on August 15, 2009

I might be wrong about this but i seem to remember Wolves had a pretty poor record last time in the Premier League, I also seem to remember Mick Mccarthy has a poor premier league record, Will this be another season to form or will both break the Premier League losing habit.

West ham played some decent football last term under Gianfranco Zola, who seems to be one of those people in football who everyone likes.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 2-1 Away Win, West ham to be too good for Mick Mccarthy’s boys

Stoke City vs Burnley 15 August

Posted by Jarv on August 15, 2009

A match between 2 teasm expected to be fighting relegation this season. For stoke this season’s survival will once again require a lot of hard work, they got some great results last season and despite the tactic being well highlighted a lot of teams truggled tocounter act it.

Will burnley be awe struck this season? for their sake they better not be or it will be a tough year

Mystic Jarv predicts 1-0 to Stoke City

Portsmouth Vs Fulham 15 August

Posted by Jarv on August 15, 2009

What is going on at Pompey, numerous players on the way out it seems no leadership from the very top yet, Will Paul Hart keep them up? Will he last the season, will the take over ever go through? will they get a points deduction?

Lots of questions and none of them good for Pompey fans.

Fulham on the other hand have a season of Europa league football to look forward to, whetehr this becomes the poisoned chalice it has done to several other teams, time will tell but under Hodgson last season Fulham attained their best ever finish in the premier league.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 2-1 Away Win.

Everton Vs Arsenal 15 August

Posted by Jarv on August 15, 2009

Everton have been a good team under Moyes and did exceptionally well last term despite a lack of strikers for much of it, Jo is once again on loan from Man City too.

Arsenal have been weakened with the loss of Toure who IMO was their best defender last term and doesn’t seem to want to sulk like Gallas when things aren’t going their way, Adebayor has gone too and despite question marks over his work ethic he’s still a good striker and a target man when the intricate passing isn’t working.

Mystic Jarv predicts 1-0 Everton in a match dominated by Arsenal passing

Bolton Wanderers Vs Sunderland 15 August

Posted by Jarv on August 15, 2009

The Question is will Darren Bent score the goals that will keep Sunderland in the premier league, I Personally think he and Kenwyne Jones will. Steve Bruce will make sure the team all plays for each other and will get some decent service from the wings.

Bolton Wanderers will likly have another tough season but should be safe due to the weaker teams in the division, Gary Megson will make sure they work hard and Zat Knight will do ok at the back.

Mystic Jarv predicts 1-0 to bolton but a poor match
