United in for Diarra?

Posted by Jarv on August 26, 2009

Our source reports that Manchester United officials have begun negotiations to sign Real Madrid’s Lassana Diarra in a deal worth up to £12 Million to the  Spanish giants.

Diarra, who moved to Madrid in January for a reported 20 million Euros, is understood to have been pushed down the pecking order for a first team start at Madrid and Real are eager to re-coup some of the money laid out this summer.

United are keen to rush the deal through before the end of the current transfer window to bolster the defensive midfield options. A problem area for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men which was highlighted with the absence of Darren Fletcher & Owen Hargreaves, whose injury is now rumoured to rule him out until January at the earliest,  against Barcelona in last seasons Champions League final.

Our source reports that although United are keen to bring in the French International before the window closes on September first, that the deal is likely to be done in January to bring in Diarra next summer.
