Football Violence

Posted by Jarv on August 26, 2009

In scenes reminiscent of those I’ve seen on video from the 1970’s (i was too young to see it first hand) West ham and Millwall me last night in the Carling cup resulting in 3 stoppages for pitch invasions, the police having to restrain the Millwall fans, fighting outside the ground and in surrounding areas and at least 3 fans hospitalised.

The FA are conducting an investigation, i for one hope this is a real investigation with real punishments for those involved, all too often footballs governing bodies are too soft after bad events.

I can’t help wondering if senior officials at FIFA and UEFA wont be having a wry grin as its something to hold against the English FA’s bid for the 2018 world cup, lets face it their dealings with the English against other nations is quite one sided, I was amazed for example that the Champions League final was given to Rome after the seemingly constant and innevitable trouble with the Rome Ultras and indeed one fan was stabbed before the game last May.

I shall watch with earnest to see the outcome of the investigation
